Slimmer This Summer Challenge

Some of you may have realized I began a weight loss journey back in January.  I felt like I had hit the proverbial "rock-bottom" when my weight crept up to 231 pounds.  Yes, I typed it for all of you to see.  That's a bunch of weight.  Unhealthy weight.  Weight that has prevented me from feeling good about myself and weight that has prevented me from having fun with my children.  So I decided to be serious about losing 50 pounds in one year.  That's a goal of 1 pound a week.  I will be relatively close to the weight I was when I got married.

I joined forces with some great friends on a "secret group" on Facebook.  We cheer each other and encourage each other to keep up the good work.  I love these girls and I feel like I've made some lifelong friends.  One of the girls suggested sparkpeople.com.  I checked it out.  It was FREE and you know how much I love free!  It took me a couple of days to figure it out, but once I got the basics, it's been wonderfully easy!

I "met" Debbi by reading her recipes she had linked to a linky party.   She has a ton of them!  Then I realized we had a lot more in common.  I am so happy to join her on this new challenge "Slimmer This Summer".  I can't wait to read more about the other ladies in the challenge.

Currently, I've lost a total of 26 pounds.  I can't tell you how good that feels!  I still have a long way to go and expect it to get harder and harder.  I figure it will take me a year to completely figure out how to eat properly.  I've already learned I need to have a meal plan in place for the week or I eat horribly, grabbing food here and there when I can.  I've also learned I must continue to keep track of my food.  I've learned I need structure and routine, which has been a tremendous struggle.  With summer here, I imagine finding a new routine will be just as elusive as ever.

My game plan is to:
  • jog 2 miles Monday, Wednesday and Friday (eventually running 10 minute miles)
  • do the 8 minute ab workout on youtube each night before bed
  • do the 30 Day Shred on Tuesday and Thursday
  • eat 1300-1500 calories daily
  • meet my weekly weight loss goal of 1 pound each week
  • reach "one"derland by July 22
So that's it in a nutshell.  Can't wait to see everyone else's goals!

Enjoy!

Love your post. Great plan. I have realized by going to many of the Slimmer this Summer challengers, and now you, that 1 pound a week loss is not a bad thing. And just in my frenzy to want to lose and lose it now I see similarities of it to my former eating habits. My weight goals are bigger than my stomach sort of thing...LOL
Good luck. See you soon.

Great job on the 26 pounds and keeping up with it for five months! That's a great accomplishment!

Welcome to the Challenge. Funny about perspective. I felt GREAT at 231, but that was an active 231 who had reduced from 299. It's all relative, huh?

I feel much better at 195 and hope to feel like crazy crazy wonderful at goal weight. I hate the damage I did to my knees being fat (and it's irreversible), so I gotta do what I can now.

Let's make it to goal and be well..

Thank you for stopping by. I am going to follow you along this journey. Good luck.
Take care and God Bless!!

I'm so happy to be "meeting" new friends through the StS challenge. I love that you have set reasonable goals for yourself. I'm a firm believer in the slow and steady weight loss method.

I topped out at 242 pounds and it has taken me over a year a half to lose 90+ pounds. I think the longer it takes to come off the more likely it will stay off. I've lost and regained before and I refuse to do that this time.

Good luck with the challenge. I'll be back to catch up and cheer you on to your goals. Happy Summer!

Way to go Candi, 26lbs!!!! I am totally jealous, but I know the hard work that goes into that weight loss. I just need to get my hiney in gear, I need to lose about 40lbs. So proud of you, and thanks for the update, please do keep it up.
