Feed Me Books Friday: Zoo Books

Today I'm participating in "Feed Me Books Friday".  This is where we share our favorite childrens' books and why.

We had never borrowed a "picture book" from the library.  Therefore, we had no idea how much fun telling our own story could be until we got this book in the mail, Welcome To The Zoo

What a great picture book!

I love this book because:

1. it's very colorful - which I think is very important to keep the interest of small children
2. there are so many story lines going on throughout the book, you can "reread" it 100 times and share a different story each time
3. you can follow the "visitors" throughout the book, from the time they enter the zoo until they leave at the end of the day (I especially love how the illustrator used the shadows from the sun to illustrate the time of day...)
4. there is a review on the back flap to see what you and your child saw while "walking" through the zoo
5. my daughter can "read" it to her little brother, which totally warms my heart

Another classic, I'd never read before receiving by mail is Good Night, Gorilla.

 

What a cute book!
This is why we love this book:

1. the gorilla is hilarious!  You actually start to "feel" how he "feels", sneaking through the zoo following the zookeeper.  The first time I read the book, I ended up whispering it...so funny.
2. it teaches your child color matching, using the keys to match to the cage.
3. I love to follow the mouse through the book.
4. it's a great story to read just before bed, keeping your child in a sleepy mood 

These are some great books to review before and after visiting your local zoo.  We visited the zoo a few weeks ago and I forgot about reviewing these books, so I'm glad another blogger reminded me.    I hope you'll look for these book the next time you're at the library or you can purchase them online.

Feed Me Books Friday: Board Books

This week at Adventure of Motherhood I'm sharing our love of board books.

With two little ones, we have our fair share of board books.  I never thought of these as "teething" tools, but honestly, they work wonders.  After my friend told me that's one of their purposes, I started looking at them with a whole new respect.  

...And a little paper never hurt anybody!   

Touch and Feel Puppy, Kitten, Farm Animals, it's a boxed set of all 3.  My almost 2 year son, loves these books.  He likes to "tickle" the puppies and the kittens.  It's very cute to see how he interacts with these books.  The books also help teach colors, textures and body parts.

Finger Puppet Friends: Little Duck, Little Ladybug, Little Lamb and Little Bee, it's a boxed set of all 4.  We originally purchased this for my daughter because her nickname is Ladybug and well, I'm a sucker for anything with ladybugs on it.  The set is adorable.  I use my thumb to wiggle the puppet, that way I could hold the book and turn the pages.  Now my daughter is old enough to be the puppeteer and "read" the story to my son.  I love how the story makes it personal and includes the child as their friend.  

We have all of these books and my preschooler and toddler love them!

Feed Me Books Friday: Peter Rabbit

Today I'm participating in "Feed Me Books Friday".  This is where we share our favorite childrens' books and why.

This week I'm sharing one of my all time favorite collection of books:  Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.*

I have to say growing up I don't really remember my Momma reading these classic stories to us, but she bought this book for my kids and we love reading the stories.

1. The stories are busy, exciting and funny.  I really love the eclectic style of the stories.  When I saw the movie about Beatrix Potter, only then did I fully understand her writing style and really appreciate it. 
2. The illustrations are beautiful and simple.  And she hand painted each one to go with each story.
3. The moral of each story is perfectly suitable for every child at any age. 

I hope you'll look for this book the next time you're at the library or even purchase it online.*

Feed Me Books Friday: Raindrop Plop

This is my first time participating in "Feed Me Books Friday".  This is where we share our favorite childrens' books and why.

When my daughter was born, my friend told me about a free literacy program called Ferst Foundation.  If you live in a participating county, you can receive free books for your children.  I signed up and we started getting the cutest little books in the mail.  If your area does not participate in this program, you can borrow these books from the library.  I thought I'd share some of our favorites over the next few weeks.  Since it's a rainy day today...and I LOVE RAINY DAYS...we read Raindrop Plop!. 

I love this book because...

1. it keeps the words to a minimum, yet the pictures speak volumes
2. it has lots of colorful pictures to help your child learn their colors
3. it helps teach your child to count
4. above of, it's a sweet book and my kids love it!
