This month we've been eating from our pantry and freezer, trying to stay out of the stores unless we run out of milk or juice.  Last week I did run out of both milk and juice and the kids were so good about drinking water.  Which is a big deal!  I had to add ice cubes to their cups so it would tinkle and they loved it.  

Hubby and I had a date Thursday night and had some time to kill so we picked up a few things:

I just realized the price of the Huggies and will be leaving after the kids are in the bed to see if they have anymore on the shelf!!!  FREE Huggies using the $3 coupon!!!

**** So after the kids were in the bed, I ran back out at 7:45 p.m. to see if they had more diapers and they did!!!  I did 2 transactions, purchasing 6 more packs of Huggies at $2.62 each and used two $2 coupons and one $3 coupon on each transaction, leaving me out of pocket $1.41 on each order.  The best part???  I got my $5 RR for each transaction!  SO they PAID ME TO TAKE THE DIAPERS!!!!  This deal is not working everywhere, but if it is, you'll rack up on free diapers!

So far this month we've spent $154.63 on groceries and $34.98 on drug store purchases.  This leaves us $45.37 for groceries next week.  I think we might actually make it under budget for the month for the first time!!!

My husband works in the food industry and they have received some startling news regarding the cost of sugar.  He was told prices can increase to as much as $5 per 5 lb bag of sugar.  When you see a good price on sugar (and I'm guessing a good price for sugar would be less than $2 per bag), I would stock up.  I've been trying to reduce the amount of sugar we consume in our diet by using honey and agave nectar.  However, there are times when sugar will only do.

The Publix sales are totally throwing me off.  I won't have to pick up anything else for next week accept for the Pepsi deal at CVS and if there are any freebies at Kroger.  So hopefully it will even out.

There are pretty slim pickings at Walgreens for me this week.  


I've got $3 RR, $2 RR, $1 RR, $1 RR from last week's trip.  I think I'm going to save these for the Pepsi deal or the Pampers deal next week 1/17/10.  Unless there is a deal that comes up during the week.

Our goals this month are not only to eat from our pantry and freezer, but also to reduce our grocery bill from $75 week to $30 a week.  To do that, I decided to only buy new pantry items that would be FREE or less than $1 and to buy fresh produce and vegetables and milk at Aldi, where the prices are lower than anywhere else in town.

For the shopping week I spent $33.87 (but I got $134.99 worth of product). My average weekly savings is 75%.  Because I purchase some food items at the drug stores, I'm going to start breaking down the out of pocket cost per item.  This will stop inflating my food budget for the month.

I spent $28.67 OOP for food this week ($1.33 UNDER budget -- yeah for me!).
