Well, I did it again. Over budget. I'm glad we started keeping track of our expenses. At least we know where the money is going and how it was spent. This month I learned I spent far too much at Target during the first week of the month. And it was really dumb, because I knew that I could have gotten the craft supplies at the Dollar Tree. I wish I had returned them to get our money back but Haylei tore open the bag when we got home. My other unusual purchase was when my momma and I took a trip to an Organic/Natural Foods store to buy some bulk organic whole wheat pastry flour, honey and herbs. Totally worth it as I used most of it during my freezer baking day. Here's how it ended up:
Grocery Stores:
Total OOP $200.32, but received $655.70 worth of product. This works out to be $50.08 each week for groceries saving $455.38 or 69.45% (over budget $.08).
Drug Stores:
Total OOP $81.79, but received $480.00 worth of product. This works out to be $20.45 each week for drug store related purchases (including diapers and wipes and my crazy Target trip) saving $398.21 or 82.96%. I ended up with $1135.70 worth of product for $282.11 saving $853.59 (75.16%). ($70.53 combined weekly OOP).
Hope you had a great month!

I did better than last month but still over budget. I've read some other blogs and sites to get some ideas on how to do better. Some of the ladies suggested taking only cash with you to the store and using only the amount you brought with you. I might try this approach this month. Here are my totals for the month of October.
Grocery Stores:
Total OOP $262.25. This works out to be $65.56 each week for groceries (over budget $15.56).
Drug Stores:
Total OOP $30.25. This works out to be $7.57 each week for drug store related purchases. I ended up with $1388.11 worth of product for $292.50 saving $1095.61 (78.93%). ($73.13 combined weekly OOP).
Hope you had a great month!

A few of my friends were curious about the amount of money I save during a month. While I knew I was doing a good job saving money and getting good deals, I really had not kept track of my savings. So I sat down and created a spreadsheet that would reflect my OOP (out of pocket expense), the amount I saved at the store, the total amount of groceries/products I got and the percentage saved during that trip.
Grocery Stores:
Total OOP $360.25, Saved $441.06, Total worth $801.31, 55.04% saved
This works out to be $90.06 each week for groceries (over budget $40.06).
Drug Stores:
Total OOP $92.93, Saved $409.98, Total worth $583.91, 81.21% saved
This works out to be $23.23 each week for drug store related purchases. So I ended up getting $1385.22 worth of product for $426.81 saving 69.11%. ($106.70 combined weekly OOP).
So let me start by stating this is my "catch up" month from the SLOW summer months. Since my husband's salary is based on commission, our income is VERY slim in the summer months. I stockpile during the fall and spring of the year. So while I was very over budget for September, I am still on par for the year -- or at least I hope so! I am still learning and hope October will be more on track for my $50 a week.
Hope you had a great month!

Grocery Stores:
Total OOP $201.12, Saved $287.58, Total worth $488.70, 58.85% saved
This works out to be $50.28 each week for groceries (only $.28 over budget).
Drug Stores:
Total OOP $108.44, Saved $401.86, Total worth $510.30, 78.75% saved
This works out to be $27.11 each week for drug store related purchases. So I ended up getting $999.00 worth of product for $309.56 ($77.39 combined weekly OOP). I hope to improve each month. We'll see how it works out.
