Homeschool: 9th Grade Reading List

It's been a long time since I was in the 9th grade.  Way.Too.Long.

So I've been doing some trolling on the net to find out what are good books to read for the 9th grade.  Since we've decided Wooley will homeschool 9th grade, I think it's important for him to read some classics.

This is a list I found on families.com.  There are some books on this list that I know we will not read like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (personal preference).   But overall it's a good list to choose from.  I remember reading Animal Farm and 1984 by George Orwell, but not sure which grade.

I'm hoping to read a few from this list too.  We're going to be heading to the library every other Monday to trade out books and get new ones.  I hope they have a few of these in the stock!

Lesson Plan - Letter "K"

Last week went good.  Monday we stayed on task and completed everything by 11:30.  The kids had free time while I prepared some lunch.  After lunch, Sissy had computer time until 1:30 after which we had "quiet time" while watching the movie Nemo.  Remember we were studying the letter "J" for jellyfish.

Tuesday went pretty good.  Wednesday was completely off schedule as I had to take Boo-Boo back to the doctor.  He had another ear infection.  Thursday, we completed the "J" Jill craft and cleaned the bathroom while talking about what a janitor does.  Friday we left to visit family in Savannah, so we didn't complete the tasks at all.  So we were a little behind and got caught up over the weekend.

I started teaching Sissy how to read using the book "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons".   The lessons are really short and easy.  She is loving the "word games".  I have to thank our friend April for telling me about this book.  So far so good.  We continued with the lessons over the weekend covering lesson 6 and 7 on Saturday and Sunday.

Lesson Plan - Letter "J"

We're going to be changing up our homeschool schedule a bit.  We are going to be focusing on learning to read using the book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

We are still going to be working on a letter each week, because I really like how that format is working for us.  We'll be working on Sissy's confidence to speak into a microphone.  She gets extremely nervous and doesn't like to comment during the meetings.  So I purchased a little microphone at the Dollar Tree and plan on covering a few paragraphs of study material each day.

Wordless Wednesday: "H" is for Hat

This week I stopped by the library to pick up a couple of "hat" books for this week's lesson.  The first one we read was called Hetty's 100 Hats.

 

What a cute book!  At the end, there are instructions on how to make a newspaper hat.  

So that's what we did:

Boo-Boo has a really big head so we had to make an oversized one for him.  But Sissy's fit her to a T!

It was fun and the kids really loved it!
