Shopping Trip 2/8/10: Publix, Food Depot, Kroger, CVS

Before we have our Super Bowl party Sunday afternoon, I wanted to pick up a few things we'd need for a couple of recipes.  I've been watching the prices of chicken wings and I can't believe they are nearly $3 per pound.  I mean we're talking about the wings!  So I went to Food Depot in the next town over because they usually have cheap prices on chicken wings.  I was so excited to spy out the reduce chicken wings for $.99 per pound!  They had to be sold by today and I put them in the bottom of my fridge to stay the coolest until tomorrow night when I'll soak them in buttermilk.  I also picked up a few fruits and veggie while there:

I should have waited on the organic milk.  The kids were going nuts and I wasn't thinking straight.  I got home and still had 1-1/2 gallons left from previous shopping trips.  Kroger frequently reduces their organic milk from $2.99 to $1.49.  I used at $1/1 printable and wish I had saved it.   

Lesson learned:  don't shop in the late afternoon before supper...the kids go crazy!

Shopping Trip 1/25/10: Kroger, Aldi and Publix

I am really upset about missing out on the Publix penny item now that they changed the day from Sunday or Monday to only Thursday (in my county).  But it's not worth the hassle of grocery shopping in the middle of the week for me.  I like to get it done on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning.  This way I can start the week off with everything I need for the week and it just makes sense to me.

I drove back out in the pouring down rain to Kroger Sunday night after we got home from Savannah to pick up on the Kraft Cheese Catalina only to be completely disappointed that it didn't print, on either order.  I picked up 10 blocks of cheese on the first order for $5.35 and 10 more blocks of cheese on the 2nd order for $8.35.  I called the Catalina company Monday to find out if they would mail me the coupon.  She was really nice and helpful and documented everything from my receipts to forward to their customer service department.  She said it can take about 4 weeks to receive anything by mail so just be on the look out.  That was my first experience with the Catalina company.  According to their directory, you can access the same information via the internet.  I really like to speak to someone in person so I'm glad I didn't have to use the online form.

I really wanted to go to Kroger and Publix but ran out of money at Kroger!  Oh well, thankfully Publix runs their sales through Wednesday and I can go next Monday.  I guess I just won't pick up on the Penny Item each week.  Kind of bummed about that...

Since the leg quarters are fresh, I'm going to sort through them and try the chicken dump recipes I found on Soopermom's Chicken Dump Recipes. Normally I'd do this on my OAMC day but since these are fresh, they probably won't make it in the fridge until next week before a strange smell comes from the bag!  I'll let you know which recipes I try from her list.

We've also never had the Yakisoba noodles before but remember when I told you about not turning my nose up to FREE stuff?  Well, I figured we'd try them.

I completely blew my budget for the week so I took from next week's food budget. (Poor Peter, robbing him to pay Paul!)  I'm not doing a very good job with my cash envelope budget system.  I hope it gets easier!

The Publix sales are totally throwing me off.  I won't have to pick up anything else for next week accept for the Pepsi deal at CVS and if there are any freebies at Kroger.  So hopefully it will even out.
