Sissy starts her first day of school Monday. I'm going to try to pack her lunch each day unless it's something on the school lunch menu she really wants, but for $2.10? I think we can make something healthier and not break the bank.
I'm also going to start Boo-Boo with PreK-3. I did this with Sissy and I think it went really well. It helps add structure to our day. We are still waiting on the enrollment approval for Wooley. Hopefully just a few more days. They told us not to be alarmed, it's completely normal to receive an individualized start date since they accept new students through October 1st. We'll be heading to the library to borrow Shakespeare's Macbeth since that's on the literature list. He can read that and we can log time for future sick days.

We're going to start a new family tradition by ending the first day of school with a special treat: ice cream and cake for supper! I think the first time I read about this was in one of my cookbooks. They suggested having an ice cream social for supper. Especially since I am counting calories, this would work great. No need to feel like we have to "save" room for dessert after eating a regular meal, you just enjoy your dessert for dinner. Genius! Don't worry, I'll be sure to add peanut butter and almonds to mine for extra protein :)
This week we're eating a new favorite again...Pesto burgers. Wow is all I can say. We really loved these the first time we ate them. I made the Pesto from basil in the garden using a recipe from foodnetwork.com. I reduced the oil to 1/3 cup and used Parmesan cheese instead of the Pecorino. Totally delicious!
We also will be attending the Saturday program of the Convention in Duluth. We have family and friends who will be there, hopefully we can catch up during lunchtime. We'll be eating out on the way home. So this is what's on the plan this week:
Monday: First day of school cake/cupcakes with frozen yogurt (not sure exactly what we'll do yet, but we'll figure out something)
Tuesday: Tacos with all the fixings, Mexican Rice and Beans
Wednesday: Breakfast for dinner: Scrambled Eggs with turkey bacon and cheese, toast and oranges
Thursday: Crock Pot Rotisserie Chicken with Baked Potatoes (thinking we'll do a lemon pepper chicken) and Green Beans
Friday: Thin Crust Pizza - Peppers and Tomatoes for me; Pepperoni and Cheese for the others
Saturday: District Convention - eating out
Sunday: Pesto Burger, pasta salad with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and fresh basil
Breakfasts:
Sissy will get to enjoy free breakfast this year at school. I'm excited to see what they include in the breakfast.

Starting Kindergarten, what a big step! I hope she enjoys it and that you can make it through with no tears. They do have snack time in Kindergarten. I love how you have breakfast for dinner once a week :) Take lots of pictures for me!
Love the ice cream for dinner idea!
Our schools don't start for another 3 weeks.
