GIVEAWAY: Cascadian Farms & Earth Day

The simple act of unplugging electronics when you aren’t using them not only reduces energy, but could save you as much as 10 percent on your electric bill.

With Earth Day’s 40th anniversary on April 22nd fast approaching, Cascadian Farm wants you to join the celebration by pledging to follow a few eco-friendly tips on Facebook. Choose from eight different pledges, ranging from reusing clothes to reducing your speed while driving on the highway, and find the one that fits your lifestyle. For each person that signs a pledge now through May 31, 2010, Cascadian Farm will donate $1, up to $40,000, to the Organic Farming Research Foundation, which fosters the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems.

As the Organic Farming Research Foundation continues to sow seeds to transform agriculture, you can do your part to initiate a positive change for healthier foods and a healthier earth by visiting http://www.facebook.com/cascadianfarm and signing the pledge that’s right for you.

Dedicated to organic goodness since 1972, Cascadian Farm products are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers or genetically engineered ingredients. With your help, we can all live greener together.

We use the plastic bags inside the cereal boxes as freezer bags...they work wonderfully and they have a second life before sadly being tossed...we just pour the cereal into our cereal 'containers' and I just fold and store the bags in the freezer door so they are always clean and available...we Sharpie the contents and then use a rubber band from produce to keep the 'freezer' bags closed...I found this tip somewhere on the internet but it's great and no purchasing zip top bags so money saving as well.

We recycle as much as we can! Everytime I go to throw something away, I ask myself, "Can this be recycled?"

Amber said...

We use cloth napkins instead of paper, we have an HE washer, we use CFL lightbulbs. We usually do an organic garden but since I will be having a baby in a few weeks we decided to not do one this year. It's not much but it is a start.

Willys and Elizabeth (Lizzie) said...

I have changed all our lightbulbs, we no longer use paper towels or napkins, and I started a compost pile and have a vegetable garden planted.

Laura said...

I try to only buy things in bulk or in containers that I know can be recycled. We have switched to cloth rags, napkins, and hankies. We grow as much of our own food as we can (herbs, vegetables, fruit, and mushrooms) and can/dehydrate/freeze as much as we're able for the winter. We make a concerted effort to buy local, organic, and sustainable produce, honey, eggs, meat, poultry, molasses. We use the farmer's market first and the supermarket last. I buy locally milled flour and cornmeal and make all of our own breads, pickles, and jams and cook from scratch whenever possible. We use CFL lightbulbs and shop first at thrift stores for clothes and household items. Thanks for keeping us in mind for your giveaway!

At work, our company uses styrofoam. They refuse to change the company policy...so the employees have brought in their own plates etc....
Styro has to be the worst thing for the environment. Whenever I get those nasty packing peanuts, I use them in the bottoms of my planters, or I crush them as much as possible and use them to aerate the soil..but heavens knows, they never go away!

We cloth diaper, and I use cloth pads. I also try to use reusable shopping bags whenever possible and support local farmers who don't use pesticides. We have stopped using ziplocks for the most part and also use reusable water bottles. We still don't pay for recycling, but we try to limit our waste.

Wow, let's see...we reuse and then reuse again! We recycle everything possible, have a compost bin, use reuseable bags for shopping, and make sure we turn off everything we can. Reusing glass jars is great! You don't have to worry about the plastic leeching into your food!
