"Potty Training"

I've already written about our potty training details before.  This time around with my son, I'm using a similar approach.  I have to admit I feel a little more prepared for the long-haul.  I'm not expecting him to be potty trained overnight (although I have a friend who was successful in 3 Day Potty Training...go Lilah!).  This time I think I'm prepared for a few set-backs.

So far, we've been using the potty before bath time.  He has this concept down pat.  However, he isn't being rewarded like my daughter was.  I think I'm going to save those for the "hardcore potty training sessions".  I've heard of a couple of things to help boys use the potty.

For example:
  • Float a Cheerio on the surface of the toilet water and let him "aim" for the Cheerio.
  • Have him go potty when daddy goes potty.
  • When outside playing, let him go behind bushes and trees.
I personally have not implemented these techniques but figured I'd keep an open-mind.  I learned a long time ago to never say "never".  I hope this works for me, what about you?

Do you have any tried-and-true methods for potty training little boys?

Any and all suggestions are welcome :)

We go potty after every meal and right when he gets up from naptime. He's starting to get the concept down. Pretty soon we are going to move to taking him every hour and see how that goes. He's still a really little guy, but we are on our way.

My son watched two potty training videos nonstop (or so it felt) for two weeks, then overnight decided he wanted to go on the potty. He doesn't like the little potty, so he has that toilet-seat-trainer contraption instead. We went to buy it together and he sets it up himself and really feels like a big boy! It's great :) I didn't want to pressure him, and suddenly he was just ready (he's 2 and 4 months). It also got hot and humid, and after the first time he went potty and I let him wear underwear, he realized how much more comfortable it is.

The cheerios idea, though, sounds hysterical and I'm sure he'd love that.

We just started real potty training this week, taking the boys about every 20 minutes to the potty, they've done pretty good, they love their big boy undies, and have had a few accidents. I hope I can make it, I feel like all we've done all week is go potty or clean up poop and pee, ugh.

I haven't really been giving them rewards except the occasional chocolate. But I have been reading potty books and I even have a potty video.

When we go outside I like them just tinkle on the tree, its so easy, I just hope my neighbors don't see, lol!

My boy was about 3 when we finally got serious about potty training.. all kids are ready when its good for them. I used a simple method. I'd tell him mommy was going to win! I'd race him into the potty and hurry up to pee.. and he'd want to win so he'd do the same. He'd use the potty chair.
