Especially since you can get these Febreze Noticeables which are on rollback for $4. There's a $4 coupon in the paper from last weekend which makes them FREE!

Also, there's a money-back guarantee on the Febreze Noticeables, so if you are not completely happy with them, you have 30 days to decide and get your money back (pre-coupon price).

Southside Theater Guild Fairburn

Are you looking for a fun night out with your family or friends? Our local theater in Fairburn, The Southside Theater Guild has a new play called "Whose wives are they anyway?" Here's a brief synopsis of the play:

After sending their wives shopping in New York, two well-meaning golfers anticipate a fulfilling golfing excursion on their own until the new CEO arrives unexpectedly and wants to meet their wives; announcing, "anyone who goes to a resort without their wife won't be employed with me." Our golfers must hastily produce wives - one man talks the receptionist into portraying his wife, but the only other person available to play the other man's wife is the other man!

This sounds so hilarious!

The performance dates are May 7-9, 14-16, and all shows begin at 8 p.m. Thursday performances are $12 and Friday and Saturday performances are $15 for adults. You can reserve your seat HERE.

Publix - Where Shopping is a Pleasure!

This is so true!!! I LOVE PUBLIX! Today I finally made it out of the house. First time since last Sunday. I've been down with this horrible cold, and now poor Hunter has it too. So I left him with Kevin and me and Haylei hit the door runnin'! I had sorted out my coupons this morning while Kevin went in service with Haylei and I stayed in with Hunter. I needed to pick up some more Claritin and I had my $4 printable coupon and Publix has a store coupon for $4. Publix will let you "stack" coupons (using a store coupon plus a manufacturer's coupon). So I got a 60 ct box of Claritin regular price $32 subtract $8 coupons makes them $24. Not bad for a 60 count box. They also accepted the $5 off $25 from Rite-Aid. Then I asked them if they would honor the "free bag" coupon from Fresh and Easy supermarket chain, and the manager said, "Of course, we will"...I LOVE THEM!!! I saved $115 and spent $100. But remember, I spent $50 just in Claritin...so I had a pretty good day.

Oh and let me tell you about a couple of FREEBIES: they sell their Daisy brand sour cream 8 oz container for $.99, use your $.50 coupon which doubles to $1 and it's free! Also, Cover Girl Eyeshadow is $2.99 and in their store flyer for the month, there is a $2 store coupon for Cover Girl, stack this with the $1 coupon from the paper and get the eyeshadow for FREE!

I have read some blogs where some customers are complaining about Publix policy regarding their Buy One Get One Free. When you have a coupon for B1G1F, evidently some Publix stores are only giving you the amount of one of the items for free. Let me explain it this way...

Today I purchased the Schick razors that were on sale, B1G1F. Regular priced at $6.29, today they are ringing up $3.15 each. I had a coupon from the paper that was also B1G1F. Some stores are evidently only ringing the price on this coupon for $3.15. So you are paying $3.15 for 2, or $1.58 each. While this is still a good deal on razors, it's not free. Now if you look at your coupons that are B1G1F, there is almost always a box for the cashier to write in the price of the single item. I have been writing it in the box myself for a few months now. It helps out the cashier, as they get in trouble with their manager if they forget to fill it out. AND I put in the price of the regular priced item, so they ring it up for that price. So today, I got 4 boxes of razors for FREE. Really and truly FREE.

I am grateful Publix doesn't make you purchase both items to get that item free (that's CVS' job). I would really hate to see this get ugly since all of us are at the mercy of one or two people who are unable to rectify the problem themselves, like I've been trying to do.

Now go and enjoy your shopping experience at Publix, where shopping is a pleasure!

Walgreens Specials 5/3-5/9

I am loving Walgreens since they have started doing more Register Rewards rather than Easy Saver Rebates. I find I almost never follow through with a rebate and if I do, I forget about it and then sometimes it doesn't come in the mail. I did that with Office Max last year. We purchased a new computer monitor and was expecting a $50 rebate by mail. About 2 weeks ago, I remembered we had never received it. When my husband checked online to see the status, they said it was mailed out. Thankfully, it wasn't cashed and Office Max submitted another one. We received it last week. That was a the end of April and we completed the rebate paperwork back in December! Sorry, had to vent my frustration :)

Oh well, on to some of my favorite deals at Walgreens:
  • Colgate Sensitive Toothpaste $4.49 (use $1 coupon) get $4.49 RR = FREE (plus moneymaker when you use the coupon)
  • Buy 2 Listerine Total Care $9 (use 2 $2 coupons) get $4.50 RR = $.25 each
  • Buy 2 Pert Plus for Men $5 (use 2 $1.50 coupons) get $2 RR = FREE
  • Right Guard deodorant $2.99 (use $1 coupon) get $2 RR = FREE
  • ThermaCare Heat Wraps $5.99 (use $3 coupon) get $3 RR = FREE
Total RR for next week = $16 RR

RECIPE: Banana Nut Bread

If you have a baby or two in your home, you probably have bananas on hand. And if you are like me, you stock up when they are having a sale at the store. Lately, I've been having to pay about $.69/lb for bananas! That is so crazy! The other day, my friend who is in the Spanish congregation told me about this man who buys a truckload of produce and odds and ends at the farmer's market and sells them in his front yard. So last Saturday, I loaded up the kids and I followed her over there. I got 8 plums, 4 huge bananas, 1 giant pineapple (cut up it yielded 9 cups of chopped pineapple), 4 apples, 1 bunch of parsley, 1 bunch of cilantro, 6 cucumbers, 8 plum tomatoes...all for $11!!! It was only supposed to be $10 but I had the extra $1 and felt like it was such a good deal, I needed to give it to him.

I already had 6 bananas from Publix and combined with the bananas purchased from the Latino farmer's market, we had an overabundance. By now the bananas are past their eating prime for me and Haylei but Hunter loves these overripe ones. I decided to make a banana nut bread with 3 of the overripe bananas. Let me start this off by stating I do not like cooked bananas in anything BUT this recipe. Not even traditional homemade banana pudding. I know! A southern girl does not say that but alas, there it is. I found this recipe in one of those envelopes you get by mail. You know the one I'm talking about..."enjoy recipes for years, I mean months, only pay $5.95 a month for the rest of your life, I mean for a year" kind of deals. Needless to say, I didn't get caught up in that scheme but I did enjoy trying out a few of the free recipes included in the mailer. This is one of them but of course, I tweaked it a bit to my liking...feel free to do the same.

Banana Nut Bread
  • 5 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cup mashed very ripe bananas (I used 3 large bananas)
  • 1-3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional) I like just a hint of cinnamon-y warmth)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts, you choose)
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan with non stick cooking spray.
  2. Beat butter in large bowl with an electric mixer set at medium speed until light and fluffy. Add both sugars; beat well. Add eggs and vanilla; beat until well blended. Add mashed bananas and beat on high for 30 seconds.
  3. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder in medium bowl. Add flour mixture to banana mixture alternately with heavy whipping cream or buttermilk, ending with flour mixture. Add nuts to batter; mix well. (TIP: toss the nuts with flour to prevent them from sinking in the batter)
  4. Pour batter evenly into prepared loaf pan. Bake until browned and toothpick inserted near center comes out clean, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. IF the toothpick comes out wet, continue baking and check every 5 minutes to prevent over baking.
  5. Cool bread in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove bread from pan; cool completely on wire rack. Slice and serve with butter. (Kevin likes to slather his with Cool Whip)
This is really great for breakfast, broil it in the oven for a few minutes to get it toasted. Or eat it at room temperature. So yummy!!!

And yes, that's my mom's old Corning ware Cornflower pattern loaf pan, she passed it to me when I moved out on my own. And if it makes it, I'll pass it to Haylei when she moves out...I hope that's a long time from now...

Enjoy!

RECIPE: Brittany Butter Cookies

These are the yummiest butter cookies you'll ever make! I have seen them called French Butter Cookies or Petites Gâteau de Bretons. They are so rich and delicious! I think even Paula Deen would approve of this one...pure buttery delightfulness!

Here's how to make them:Brittany Butter Cookies
  • 6 egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 1 Tbsp milk
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 7/8 cup sugar
  • 7/8 cup salted butter, at room temperature, cut into pieces
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Mix 1 tablespoon of the egg yolks with the milk to make a glaze and set aside.
  2. In a food processor, add flour and sugar and pulse lightly to combine. Add butter and pulse until it looks crumbly, pulsing 6-8 times. Add yolks and pulse to combine, will be very crumbly.
  3. Pour dough onto lightly floured surface and form into a disk. Dust rolling pin and top of dough with flour. Continue to dust top of dough with flour to keep it from sticking to rolling pin and roll dough out to about 1/4" thickness. Cut out rounds using a cookie cutter. Transfer them to prepared baking sheet. Brush each round with a little egg and milk glaze. With a knife, score lines to create a lattice pattern on each cookie round.
  4. Bake cookies for about 12-15 minutes until very lightly golden. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes, then carefully remove cookies and let completely cool on rack. Store in an airtight container.
The cookies I made above were cut out using a teapot shaped cookie cutter. I also sprinkled them with raw sugar to make them look very special.
