My friends and I are going to be running/walking (...crawling if need be) in the Big Peach 5th Annual 5K today. The race begins at 8 a.m. and winds through the Brookhaven community in Atlanta. It should be a pretty cloudy day for the race. I'm glad for that! I'm not sure if the rain will hold off until later in the day, so I'm taking a rain poncho with me. This is only my second 5K.

My long time friend Jodi and her sister Melissa signed up for the first one and then I decided it would be a great way to lose weight. Lord knows I need to lose about 50 pounds. So I joined the Couch Potato to 5K program and it was going great until the 3rd week of training when my treadmill died. BOOHOO! I was so sad. But then I decided to run around the house while the kids played in the yard on warm days (mind you, this was in the middle of winter, December and January). The race was on February 27 and it was about 28 degrees F. It warmed up nicely to about 45 degrees.

My hubby jogged and walked with me in the race. What a great husband I have! He was very encouraging to me the whole way through. My goal was to finish at 60 minutes. I finished at 47:46! Yeah me! I was so excited!
After the first race, we agreed to keep up the momentum and do a race every 3 months (4 times a year). So we found this one on May 1st. I have to admit that I have not been training at all. I did run up the road on Tuesday, it's a mile and a half from my drive way to the end of the road and back. My husband followed me in the minivan with the kids strapped in. (I don't really feel super safe walking on my road alone.) It took me 24 minutes to finished 1.5 miles. I was hoping to complete this race under 45 minutes but with the lack of training and the "rolling course", I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that or not. But if you don't set goals, you have nothing to aim for right?
I'll let y'all know how it goes!

That's awesome! I hope you had a good walk:-)
Hope you had a great run today! So many of my friends run and I've never tried... I might just have to check out the Couch to 5K. Thanks for the motivation.
How did the race go? Looking forward to your update!
I bet you did awesome! Good for you! As you know, I just completed my first one and I survived it. You will too. And I can't believe your treadmill died half way through training. The SAME thing happened to me and I only got mine fixed last week, a month AFTER my race~ curazy!
