What's Blooming? Our May Update

While I'm pretty new to vegetable gardening, I am not new to flower gardening.  My Momma has the green thumb in our family and over the years she has helped me pick our appropriate plants and flowers for my yard.  Here's some of the prettiness we're seeing right now in May:

Hydrangea
'Nikko Blue' at least I think this is what it might be.  This was a cutting from my father-in-law.  I have a huge one by the front steps and I cut a branch off and stuck it on the ground and it grew.  My ground is very fertile since this land has been untouched for at least 100 years and was covered with a thick layer of humus from the oak leaves.

Peonies
'Sarah Bernhardt' pink ones and 'Festiva Maxima' white ones (if you follow me on twitter @gapeachmom you'll have already seen these peonies...I shared them earlier this week).

Roses
'Eden' a very finicky rose, very susceptible to black spot.

'Souvenir de la Malmaison' the most fragrant of my roses,
this single bloom perfumes the entire side yard...unbelievable!

'New Dawn' with 'Jackmanii' clematis - the easiest growing rose I know, besides 'Belinda's Dream' (which I do not have planted but my Momma has about 10 bushes).
'Jackmanii' is the deepest purple clematis and I love purple!
I especially like how it contrasts with the light pink roses.

Knock Out Roses Pink - these are also super easy to grow and will bloom from Spring to first frost in October or November

Flowering Shrubs
  Mock Orange 'Philadelphus Coronarius'

What do you have blooming in your neck of the woods?

Just stopping by from Tidy Mom's "I'm lovin' it Friday." I love Hydrenga's. What do you do to keep your soil acidic? I throw my daily coffee grinds on mine and get the prettiest colors.

Your flowers are beautiful. :) I try and try to grow flowers, but they always die on me, no matter what I do. Black thumb I guess.

Your flowers are just gorgeous! We've had roses for many years, but just this year we are branching out into a lot of different and new flowers. What fun!

Candi- Guess what? I have hydrangeas, peonies, pink roses and purple clematis, too. :-)
Unfortunately, none of mine are blooming yet, so I live vicariously through you (though just for a moment!).

Thanks for linking up to the Tuesday Garden Party!

I featured my peonies in my garden post today too. Stop by and see them if you get a chance. I hope your smell as wonderful as mine. My first hydrangea is just starting to turn blue, a sure sign it is time for school to be out!
